Being honest with myself: A quick life update

Dear Reader

It's been a while since I last wrote. How are you?

A life update: I recently took up a role at an independent academic charity that promotes sciences in HK :)

It's been a month, and surprisingly, I'm enjoying it more than I thought!

After working for myself for 7 years, I feel GLAD to finally have coworkers to bounce ideas off (which I've been missing a lot!) and be part of something with a bigger scale that we can now co-create as a team. Having predictability, a structure that provides clarity of expectations, a hybrid flexible work mode, and a financial cushion also calm my nervous system.

The adventurous part in me is also excited to navigate a new sector (with no science background at all) and connect with a community of young and bright scholars!

The most precious part? I can finally have guilt-free holidays without worrying about work, bills, or social media algorithms 😭.

In short, I feel lighter and more grounded as I'm no longer "all by myself" trying to figure everything out.

Have you been there? Can you relate?

Being honest with myself

If I am being brutally truthful when looking into the mirror, the version of me today no longer wants to be ultra self-reliant.

That craving for freedom and autonomy was necessary 7 years ago when I was learning to detach my self-worth from my career while navigating how to be a true, mature adult.

Since then, I've done my inner work, healed and converted inner demons into allies, developed healthy self-worth, and reclaimed my personal power. I've learned how to be emotionally and financially independent and take good care of myself, my clients, plus my family members.

Right now, in 2024, all I want is more PEACE and EASE.

Yes, I know I'm strong, intelligent, and resilient, but just because I CAN do it all doesn't mean I HAVE to. The superwoman archetype never resonates with me — why do I want to shoulder all responsibilities trying to be the hero(ine) when there are 8.1 billion humans on Earth?! (fellow busy-bees Generators & MGs, are you feeling guilty about this too?)

It's priority #1 that my work has to be meaningful to me, and to others.

Yet, my self-worth is untouched by whatever job or work mode I choose or how much I get paid because I KNOW WHO I AM AT MY CORE.

My purpose has not changed ever since I was a teenager:

I am here to unleash and liberate the full potential that humans are born with so that together, we can make the world a better place.

There are many ways of expressing it throughout different phases of my own life, AND that of our societal and technological evolutions. (🕰️ the importance of right timing!)

We are all so so so gifted that we haven't unearthed all we've got yet!

So now, I'm ready to move on to the next stage - to impact more thought leaders around me with my presence and the embodiment of what I have been sharing, while I allow myself to lean in, be receptive, and trust the flow of life.

Do you allow yourself to change your mind, when you realise what you actually want is different now?

Why now? Why science?

>>> My keywords for 2024 include:

Embodiment.
Calming my nervous system.
Legacy.

Synchronicities that brought me here:

  • This organisation I'm working with is a legacy left by a quiet philanthropist (that and whom I haven't heard of).
  • My year plan didn't include getting a job. Yet somehow, this opportunity opened up; I felt a ping to browse job openings (something I have not done in YEARS), and the whole interview process was simply effortless and without drama. The whole team embraced me with friendly, open arms.
  • The office has just been renovated (we moved in last week!), which is lovely timing for resetting and refreshing the Feng Shui for period 9 in the next two decades.

Is it manifestation, or am I just lucky? I'm not 100% sure, but I am definitely in the flow of my decisions.

Why go into science now? Well, I'll let the Universe unfold the mega plan later :)

Takeaways for you

Okay, enough about me. What can you learn from my experience?

Do you feel a BIG CHANGE is emerging within you too?

It's normal to feel vulnerable in different stages of the change process i.e. when we

1) realise the need to change,

2) resist, explore, and decide whether/ how to change,

3) shake off and declutter the old attachments to make space for the new,

4) dive all in to embrace the new direction we are taking, and

5) ensure the old patterns are NOT repeating in the new arena we are playing!

The entire process involves a lot of decision-making; Human Design is particularly powerful for helping you make aligned decisions in life and at work!

(If you haven't yet, get your personalised QHD chart here for free!)

Breaking the big decision down into micro-decisions:

Let's take getting a new job as an example.

If you are a Generator or MG who is best to make decisions with your gut responses, you can break the entire job search into multiple stages and expect to make a dozen Y/N questions throughout the process:

  • Browsing through the job site and advertisement - Do I want to apply for this?
  • Someone refers opportunities to you or invites you for a coffee chat - Am I interested?
  • Researching the organisation - Does this feel right?
  • Getting an invitation to an interview - Do I want to attend?
  • After meeting your future colleagues at the interview - Are these people my gang? Is this role a good fit for my life plans? Am I a good fit for the role?
  • Receiving the offer and package - Does it feel right? Do I feel valued and well respected?

If you are a projector/ manifestor with splenic authority, you are designed to know what feels right to you at the moment, which is usually hard to express in words. There's an instant "knowing" within you, especially when you expose yourself to the environment and the vibes of the people. So, seek to interact with the space and people at an earlier stage to help you "get a feel" and make snap decisions! Trust your inner knowing EVEN if you can't explain it to others because if you look back, your hunches were usually right!

Or, if you are a projector/ reflector with self-authority, you need a sounding board person whom you can trust to listen to you attentively while you talk about your options. You'll gain your aha moments right after you finish talking. Reminder - You don't need their advice :)

Or, if you are a projector/ manifestor with ego authority, to make good decisions that align with your energy, you'll have to build healthy self-worth that you are not doing things to please anyone or to prove yourself, and have rested enough. Once you are in that state, you can "just do it", or the right invitations will fall onto your lap!

And regardless of your type, if you are an emotional/ creative authority, sleep on it for 2-3 days and check in with yourself again: "After the initial excitement is gone, what brings PEACE?"

To summarise: Key questions for decision-making:

  • What excites you?
  • What expands you?
  • What feels juicy?
  • What lights you up?
  • What brings peace?
  • What brings ease?
  • What brings joy?
  • What feels right?
  • What feels light?

These are the YESes that guide you through every step of your journey.

As a career + purpose coach for the past decade, you know I don't just talk about theories - I've actually experimented with almost every work mode in my own career journey by having been a:

  • staff member at an international corporation, climbing up the career ladder with job rotations and secondments
  • staff member at a half-public education institute
  • staff member at a profit-making school
  • staff member at a start-up (as an intern)
  • staff member at a charity
  • slasher/ freelancer/ part-time or temporary independent contributor to local businesses
  • solopreneur
  • start-up founding team member
  • consultant helping out at my brother's company
  • unpaid carer at home
  • community service project lead
  • multitasker who has had side gigs and passion projects throughout my entire career
  • and more to come!

(What a typical 3/5 MG's career journey of multi-disciplinary experimentations 🤣)

So, whichever career stage you are in, I'm confident I will get you!
(except the military)

If you have a career gap like mine, are considering a career pivot, or are switching industries and would love my support, I'm opening limited spots for career consultation sessions in June. Check it out!

May your June be filled with more peace, joy and expansion!

Best,

Hi Reader Last Fri, I took part in a Forest Therapy session at the Tsz Shan Monastery. We were advised to put our phones in the locker, and be guided on a mindful walk around the mountains for 90 minutes. Talking to the clouds. Talking to our hearts. Listening to what nature has been whispering to us. Listening to what our hearts have been SHOUTING to us 😂 Hugging the trees. Hugging the inner child. Thanking Mother Earth for all that she provides in every step we take. Thanking myself for...

(it's a long email today) Hi Reader, 2023 marks the 10th year since I started career coaching🥳! Back in 2012, I was awakened to the fact that I had no further interest in climbing the corporate ladder after my early roles in international HR & talent development. Then, confirming my life's direction during a life-changing trip to India & Nepal, I started career coaching initially at a University coaching young adults. Then, I continued pivoting and growing into an independent coach since 2017...
